May 2010 Meeting (Observed) - Web Services with PHP and Zend Framework

Mon, 2010-06-07 20:00

Due to Memorial Day LIPHP traditionally moves its May meeting to the first Monday of June.

Abstract:

A case study demonstrating how PHP’s SOAP functionality enables you to retrieve data from any server that supports the SOAP protocol.

Alan Seiden will demonstrate a PHP-based web application he developed that runs on an IBM i server, displaying real-time delivery data pulled from a Windows-based UPS RoadNet system. Yes, PHP and .NET can be friends when you use SOAP!

Alan will share practical tips on developing with SOAP that will save you time. To start, he used the very easy SOAP Client functions supplied with Zend Framework (a free and open source PHP framework).

He will also show how he integrated the data seamlessly into the web application, further enhancing the user experience with AJAX functionality and animations from the Dojo javascript toolkit.

SOAP is more than a buzzword. It really works! Come learn about it.
